Bae Joo-hyun (Hangul: 배주현; born March 29, 1991), better known by her stage name Irene, is a South Korean singer, television host and actress. She is the leader of South Korean girl group Red Velvet.
Career
Pre-debut and S.M. Rookies
She was part of S.M. Entertainment's pre-debut group, S.M. Rookies.[1] Before debut, she has also appeared in a music video for labelmate Henry's "1-4-3". Various clips of Irene were released in S.M. Entertainment's official YouTube channel, one of which included her and Seulgi dancing to Be Natural, a song originally performed by S.M. Entertainment's former group S.E.S., showcasing their dancing. Prior to debut, she has also appeared in a few music videos of labelmates.
2014–present: Debut with Red Velvet and solo activities
On August 1, 2014, Irene debuted as a member of Red Velvet.[2] In November 2014, she has appeared in the music video for Kyuhyun's single "At Gwanghwamun".[3] On May 1, 2015, with actor Park Bo-gum, Irene become the new MC for Music Bank.[4]
In April 2016, Irene was cast as the female lead in the web drama The Female Employees of a Game Company.[5]
