For the school in Hermosillo, see Instituto Irlandés Hermosillo.

The Irish Institute (Spanish: Instituto Irlandés) is a private school in Greater Mexico City. Operated by the Legionaries of Christ,[1] it has separate campuses for boys' and girls' schools and a preschool in Naucalpan, State of Mexico.[2][3][4] The school levels in total range from preschool to bachillerato,[5] equivalent to the American K-12. The preschool is coeducational but other levels are separated into the boys' and girls' campuses.[6] It is one of the most prestigious and selective private schools in Mexico

The school is in proximity to Lomas de Chapultepec (Las Lomas) in Mexico City. It is operated by the Legionaries of Christ.[1] The Irish Institute is also present in Italy in the city of Rome and in other cities of Mexico, including: Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey.

Student body

Jason Berry and Gerald Renner, the authors of Vows of Silence: The Abuse of Power in the Papacy of John Paul II, said that the students came from the "superrich of Mexico City".[1] Paul Lennon, a former member of the Legionaries quoted in the book, wrote that "The family names[of the students] were like a Who's Who of Mexican high society."[1] Historically many students arrived in cars driven by bodyguards for protection against kidnapping.[1]
