Recording career
Early life
Isabella Bennett was born on October 7, 1986, in San Diego as the identical twin of David Michael Bennett. She attended The Art Institute of California in San Diego, majoring in Game Art & Design before dropping out of the school.[2] She then attended Grossmont College, where she studied miming with Jonathan "Jon" Sprague, Erin Burke, and her brother David.[2] They became members of a local mime group called Troupe SD, playing street performances in Balboa Park, California as robotic characters.[3]
Steam Powered Giraffe
Steam Powered Giraffe officially formed in 2008, composed of Isabella, David Bennett, Jon Sprague, and Erin Burke. Isabella's fictional alias was and is that of "Rabbit", a copper clockwork robot created by an inventor named Colonel Peter A. Walter in 1896.[2] In October 2009, they released their debut album, Album One, featuring songs sung by Isabella, including their previously released singles "On Top of the Universe" and "Brass Goggles". Isabella is also known for her lead vocal work on the single "Honeybee" from their second album, The 2¢ Show. She has illustrated artwork for the band's albums, as well as for the single "Brass Goggles".
Personal life
Isabella is transgender, and in early 2014, transitioned her Rabbit persona from male to female to coincide with her own transition as a transgender woman.[2] In June 2014, she stated on the website Tumblr that her legal name would be Isabella "Bunny" Bennett. These changes were legally finalized 22 January 2016.[4][5]
