| Western Asia is not included in the classification of Asia by the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT). Shiritsu zaigai kyōiku shisetsu are overseas branches of Japanese schools; these are boarding and day schools which provide sixth form/senior high school level education. Nihonjin gakkō are day schools operated by Japanese associations and, usually, only include primary and junior high school levels. The Shanghai Japanese School is the only such school to have senior high school classes. |
