Israel Atomic Energy Commission

Israel Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC) (Hebrew: הוועדה לאנרגיה אטומית) is responsible for the operations of the State of Israel in the nuclear field.

History

The IAEC was established on 13 June 1952 by Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, and was headed by Professor Ernst David Bergmann. Initially the committee was located in temporary structures near Rehovot and in 1958 the erection of Soreq Nuclear Research Center began. At the end of 1959 the erection of the Negev Nuclear Research Center began. The Commission's offices are located on the Chaim Levanon st. in Ramat Aviv.
