Israel and state-sponsored terrorism

Since the issuance of the Declaration of Independence by the Israeli government on 14 May 1948,[1] Israel is labeled as a terrorist state for its actions specially against Palestinians and Iranians. The assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists, explosions of Iranian garrisons, targeted killings specially against Palestinians and some bombings are the major actions that Israel is accused of. On December 14, 2006, the Supreme Court of Israel ruled that targeted killing by Israel Defense Forces is a kind of legal self-defense against terrorists, and determined several terms for its use. The legality of these actions and the high death toll amongst innocent persons has been criticized by human rights groups in Israel and abroad. Also, Israel is accused as a terrorist state by some of the countries for its actions during the Israel-Gaza conflict, officially.

Israel's role in the assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists

According to NBC news unnamed U.S officials have confirmed the members of MEK are trained and armed by Mossad for the assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists.[2][3][4] people's Mujahedin of Iran is an Iranian opposition movement that advocates the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran.[5] This organization was listed as a terrorist organization under U.S. law until 2012.[6]

In an interview with Der Spiegel, Moshe Ya'alon hinted that Israel was behind the assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists.[7][8]

Totally Mossad is accused of killing Masoud Alimohammadi,[9] Majid Shahriari,[10] Darioush Rezaeinejad[11] and Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan.[12][13] Also, Mossad is accused for unsuccessful assassination of Fereydoon Abbasi.[14][15]

Bid Kaneh and Imam Ali garrisons explosions

Main article: Bid Kaneh explosion

Bid Kaneh explosion was a large explosion that occurred in 13:30 local time, 12 November 2011 in Shahid Modarres missile base[16]).According TIME magazine an unnamed Western official said implied the explosion was deliberate.[17] Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said about the explosion, "May there be more like it."[18] Major General Hassan Tehrani Moghaddam was killed in this explosion.[19]

Nearly a year before Bid Kaneh explosion, about 11 local time, 12 October 2010, an explosion occurred in Khorram Abad Imam Ali garrison. The Daily Telegraph wrote that the Israeli's media claims this explosion is a sabotage by Israel.[20]

Targeted killing

On December 14, 2006, the Supreme Court of Israel ruled that targeted killing by Israel Defense Forces is a kind of legal self-defense against terrorists, and determined several terms for its use.[21][22] The legality of these actions and the high death toll amongst innocent persons has been criticised by human rights groups in Israel and abroad.[23] While the term "targeted killing" usually describes airborne attacks, Israeli security forces have killed top Palestinian militants in the past by other means, although this has never been confirmed officially.

Some of the known operations include:[24]

Lavon Affair

Main article: Lavon Affair

The 'Lavon Affair' is a unsuccessful Israeli covert operation, code named 'Operation Susannah', conducted in Egypt in the Summer of 1954. As part of the false flag operation,[37] a group of Egyptian Jews were recruited by Israeli military intelligence to plant bombs inside Egyptian, American and British-owned civilian targets, cinemas, libraries and American educational centers. The bombs were timed to exploded several hours after closing time. The attacks were to be blamed on the Muslim Brotherhood, Egyptian Communists, "unspecified malcontents" or "local nationalists" with the aim of creating a climate of sufficient violence and instability to induce the British government to maintain its occupying troops in Egypt's Suez Canal zone.[38] The operation caused no fatality, except for operative when a bomb he was taking to place in a movie theater ignited prematurely in his pocket; for two members of the cell who committed suicide after being captured; and for two operatives who were tried, convicted and executed by Egypt.

The operation ultimately became known as the 'Lavon Affair'. Following this operation the Israeli defense minister Pinhas Lavon was forced to resign. Even though Israel denied any involvement in the operation for 51 years, the surviving members were honored by Israeli President Moshe Katzav in 2005.[39]

1950–51 Baghdad bombings

1950–1951 Baghdad bombings refers to a series of bombings of Jewish targets in Baghdad, Iraq, between April 1950 and June 1951.

There is a dispute around the true identity and objective of the offenders behind the bombings, and this issue remains unresolved.

Two activists in the Iraqi Zionist underground were found guilty by an Iraqi court for a number of the bombings, and were sentenced to death. Another was sentenced to life imprisonment and seventeen more were given long prison sentences.[40] The allegations against Israeli agents had "wide consensus" amongst Iraqi Jews in Israel.[41] Many of the Iraqi Jews in Israel who lived in poor conditions blamed their ills and misfortunes on the Israeli Zionist emissaries or Iraqi Zionist underground movement.[42] The theory that "certain Jews" carried out the attacks "in order to focus the attention of the Israel Government on the plight of the Jews" was viewed as "more plausible than most" by the British Foreign Office.[43][44] Telegrams between the Mossad agents in Baghdad and their superiors in Tel Aviv give the impression that neither group knew who was responsible for the attack.[44]

Israeli involvement has been consistently denied by the Israeli government, including by a Mossad-led internal inquiry,[45] even following the 2005 admission of the Lavon affair.[46]

Israel–Gaza conflict

During the Israel-Gaza conflict Israel has been accused as a state-sponsored terrorism for its actions in Gaza by some countries. Some of these sayings are:

Gaza flotilla raid

Main article: Gaza flotilla raid

On 31 march 2010, Israeli Shayetet 13 naval commandos attacked to six civilian ships of the "Gaza Freedom Flotilla".[52] Nine activities were killed on MV Mavi Marmara during this attack.[53][54][55][56] United Nations Security Council convicted this attack and noted "to need to have a full investigation into the matter and it calls for a prompt, impartial, credible and transparent investigation conforming to international standards."[57] By some, including Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Israel is accused as a terrorist state for this operation.[58][59][60]

January 2015 Mazraat Amal incident

The January 2015 Mazraat Amal incident was an airstrike against a two-car convoy that killed six Hezbollah fighters that one of them was Jihad Mughnieh the son of Imad Mughnieh, and a general of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Ali Allahdadi,[61][62][63][64]
at al-Amal Farms (Mazraat Amal) in the Quneitra District of Syria, in the Golan Heights, on 18 January 2015, during the Syrian Civil War. The attack was largely attributed to Israel, which did not officially confirm that it carried it out.[65] Hezbollah and IRGC held Israel responsible and threatened to retaliate.[66] Amid official silence, a flurry of statements from anonymous Israeli officials have made contradictory claims. One said Israel had been unaware that an Iranian general was in the convoy.[67] Another anonymous senior Israeli security source said Israel believed it was attacking only low-ranking Hezbollah militants planning an attack on Israelis at the frontier fence, and that it had no idea the party contained prominent Hezbollah members, and least of all an Iranian general.[61][65] Alex Fishman wrote in Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth that "one official apologizes anonymously, the other official refuses to apologize anonymously ... We are talking about a potential war and the heads of the state are playing hide and seek."[67]

A United Nations spokesman reported that the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) observed two unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) flying from Israeli-occupied Golan and crossing the Area of Separation buffer zone towards UN position 30 on the Syrian controlled edge of the zone, where they lost track of them. An hour later they saw smoke coming from position 30 but could not identify the source. Later they observed drones coming from the area of position 30 and flying over Jabbata, in the Area of Separation. The spokesman stated that this was a violation of the 1974 Agreement on Disengagement between Israel and Syria.[68] Residents of al-Amal Farms said that two cars arrived there, and within ten minutes two aircraft fired two missiles on each car. The resulting explosions left charred tyres, molten metal and car parts strewn about. One local was struck in the head by shrapnel and taken to hospital.[69] Hezbollah said that one of their vehicles was destroyed and another damaged.[70]
Reports prior to the United Nations statement suggested an attack by an Israeli helicopter, but the later reports indicated it may have been by drones.[65] After this operation Iran’s IRGC (Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution) commander Mohammad Ali Jafari described Israel's political system "oppressive, satanic, and terrorist political system".[71]

Israel-Syrian rebels relationship

In a report of UN Disengagement Observer Force is said that Israel cooperates with Syrian rebels[72] including ISIS and al-Qaeda.[73][74] In this report and a few past reports are noted that unspecified supplies has been transferred from Israel to Syrian rebels. And these reports say that the soldiers of IDF met with Syrian rebels in the east of Green Zone.[73] These groups are designated terrorist organisations by the United Nations and its member states, the United States, India, Australian, England, Iran and other countries.[75][76][77][78][79][80][81]

This suspicion has contributed to the alienation of Iraqi immigrants from successive Labor governments.
