Itabhatta

Ithabhatta is a municipality and town in the eastern part of Nepal. It includes Mechinagar, the municipality headquarters, which is one of the fastest growing towns in Jhapa District.

History

The name Itabhatta in Nepali means "brick factory" (from ita, brick, and bhatta, factory); it has one of the oldest brick factories in eastern Nepal. King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev had promised to construct the biggest shopping center in Nepal, and enlisted the factory for the project. However, after the assassination of Birendra and his family, the project was halted.
