Ivan Šarić (born 17 August 1990, in Split) is a Croatian chess Grandmaster. He first became known internationally by winning the 2007 Under-18 division at the European Youth Chess Championship.[1] The following year he earned the grandmaster title and won the 2008 U18 World Youth Chess Championship.[2][3]

He is a two-time Croatian Champion (2010 and 2014), and a member of the Croatian national team since 2009.[4]

In 2011 he tied for 2nd-7th with Julio Granda, Aleksander Delchev, Maxim Turov, Pablo Almagro Llamas and Mihail Marin the 31st Villa de Benasque Open.[5]

Šarić won the Tata Steel Challengers tournament in 2014, scoring 10/13, a point and half ahead of the second Baadur Jobava.[6] As a result, he qualified for the 2015 Tata Steel Masters, where he finished in 12th place with 3.5/11.[7]

His most notable result to date was defeating World Champion Magnus Carlsen in the 2014 Chess Olympiad,[8] where Šarić finished with 7/11.[9]

He has a Bachelor's degree in Informatics (Computer Science), from the University of Split, where he graduated in 2013, and he lives in Omiš, Croatia, with his wife and daughter.
