J. J. Power is an Irish Green Party politician from Caragh, near Naas in County Kildare. He was educated locally at the Christian Brothers School in Naas and has a degree in Civil engineering from the Institute of Technology, Carlow.

His father, Paddy Power, was a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD), minister, and Member of the European Parliament (MEP). His brother, Seán Power was also a Fianna Fáil TD.

He was formerly chair of Kildare County Council's County Development Board, chair of the Environmental Strategic Policy Committee and a member of the Finance committee, Corporate Policy Group and the Rural Water Monitoring Committee. On the Naas town council he held the chair of the Protocol Committee as well as serving on the Garda Liaison and Twinning Committees.

He was elected to both Kildare County Council and Naas Town Council in the 2004 local elections regaining the seat he lost in 1999.[1]

He was the Green Party candidate at the 2005 Kildare North by-election in which he obtained 6% of the vote.[1] He unsuccessfully contested the Kildare South constituency at the 2007 general election.[1] He lost his seat at the 2009 local elections.
