J8DED is and American Internet based episodic series. It was available for viewing online, via paid website subscription, from December 9, 2010 through approximately November 1, 2011. Four episodes were produced.
Synopsis
The series revolves around the titular main characters, a pop duo consisting of David Salem (Daemon) and Lola Sanchez (real-life pop singer Martika, billed as Vida Edit; also Daemon's real-life wife.) Through what was described on the website only as a "monumental mistake" (later revealed to be Lola having mistakenly insulted the Queen of England in an interview) the two - a massive success abroad but not in America - are expatriated from England and wind up in Cincinnati, Ohio as virtual unknowns and with no money. This drives them to the edge of sanity as they desperately try to reclaim fame and wealth. Sub-plots revolve around David's twin brother, a soldier who has been M.I.A. since 2005, and Lola's overbearing mother, a telenovela star.
Production notes
Production on the show began in January 2007. It started production under the production of "Fox Alpha Films". Produced, written, directed by and starring Daemon, the show's production company is "J8ded Pictures". In October 2009 Procter & Gamble became the major paid sponsor of the program 1. Clips of the show were posted on the official website featuring heavy product placement. In July 2010 all video clips, including the official trailer, were removed from the official website.
The show's format was frequently changed. Originally billed as a pilot they intended to shop to major networks, the show ultimately ended up exclusively online. Those who wished to view had to pay a monthly subscription fee to access the official website. Delays due to J8DEDTV.COM setup forced a publicized release date of September 19, 2010 to December 9, 2010. This was after over a year of announced release dates that were ultimately and repeatedly retracted.
After four episodes, the show stopped being available for viewing. No further episodes were uploaded or announced. Without notice, on November 1, 2011 the official website for the show began forwarding to the new official website for Martika.
Press
Little press attention was given to the show despite the involvement of award-winning singer Martika and the relatively high budget. Most press revolved around the fact that the show was filmed in Cincinnati. 2 Daemon and Edit granted a radio interview to the online gay-oriented radio program "The Fruit Salad Show".
Initial pre-airing hype was based around singer Martika's involvement in the project. Pre-Speculation of the project was of the opinion that the series was little more than an advertising platform for P&G products and a vehicle for Martika's comeback. Fan reception was strong and mostly positive, but what little critical review the show received was extremely poor.
Daemon maintained an ongoing Twitter and Facebook page with frequent updates on production progress and post production episode release schedules. These inexplicably disappeared on November 1, 2011.
