She is a member of the British Medical Association council, co-chair of the NHS Consultants Association, co-founder of Keep Our NHS Public and an executive member of the National Health Action party.

She was called as a witness by the House of Commons Health Committee enquiry into Top–up fees in the NHS in January 2009.[2]

She was very active in the campaign against the Health and Social Care Act 2012.[3] In particular she was vocal in the campaign against the BBC for failing, she claimed, to give sufficient exposure to the threat to the NHS.[4]

The book she edited, “NHS SOS” is described as "not for the faint-hearted. Whilst it does not describe the events directly leading up to the Health and Social Care Bill (2011) ultimately obtaining Royal Assent in a sensationalist way, the description is terrifying. The reader is carefully led through the evidence of what actually happened; how the introduction of a full-blown market into the National Health Service was carefully planned if somewhat haphazardly implemented".[5]

In March 2013 she appeared and spoke at the rally against the sale of part of Whittington Hospital.[6] She also spoke at a public meeting about the future of the hospital in September 2013.[7]
