Jakup Ferri (1832–1879) was an Albanian nationalist and rebel leader from Plavë during the Albanian National Awakening. He was famous mostly for the protection of Albanian lands during the Montenegrin annexation.[1] Together with many other fighters from Gjakova, they assassinated the Ottoman leader Mehmet Ali Pasha in 1878. He led the Albanian irregulars in 1879 in the Battle of Nokshiq against Montenegrin forces, and was killed in the battle.

Jakup Ferri was born in Plavë into an Albanian family from Kuqi (now Montenegro). He was an active insurgent against the Montenegrin annexation of Plavë and Guci after 1878. He joined the League of Prizren (Lidhja e Prizrenit), established after the Congress of Berlin (1878) that ceded Plavë and Guci to Montenegro. Ali Pasha of Guci (Ali Pashë Gucia), the leader of the League, appointed him commander for the defence of Plavë. He commanded his forces in the retreat from the Montenegrin assaults and managed to cut off the Montenegrins when they counter-attacked. Jakup Ferri fell at the beginning of the Battle of Nokshiq,[2] which ended in a victory for the League.
