James Evans (Utah politician)

James Evans was elected chairman of the Utah Republican Party in 2013, the first African-American to serve.[1][2] Evans previously served as the first African-American Utah State Senator.[1] He represented a Salt Lake County district in the state senate.

Evans served in the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of captain.[3] He owns a payday lending franchise, Chekline.[2]
