James Merry (actor)

James Merry (Born 30 July 1982 in Sutton Coldfield, UK) is a British actor best known for his appearances in the British daytime soap opera Doctors.[1]

Early Life and Training

The only son of Christina and Michael Merry, he began acting at the age of 10 with the Central Junior Television Workshop in his native Birmingham. At the age of 20 he moved to Guildford, Surrey where he attended the Guildford School of Acting completing a BA(Hons) degree in Acting and received the accolade of "Experts Choice" in The Stage newspaper for his showcase performances.[2] He attended Bishop Vesey's Grammar School, is a lifelong Aston Villa fan and lives in Guildford, Surrey.

Career

As a child he appeared in the television series The Demon Headmaster and presented articles on Saturday morning children's show Scratchy and Co. He is best known for his portrayal of bad boy Danny Ogbourne in the BBC soap opera Doctors. He has also appeared in the ITV drama Where the Heart Is.[1] as well as commercials for Nokia, Heineken, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King, Vodafone, Phones4U, Nationwide Building Society and Meller Chocolate.

On stage he played the title role in Oliver! as a child at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham. In 2007 he appeared in a production of The Glass Tower at The Pleasance Theatre, Islington.[3] In 2009 he completed a nationwide theatre tour of Jane Austen's Emma with Heartbreak Productions, taking the role of George Knightley.[4]

In 2013, he appeared in ITV drama Endeavour, the Inspector Morse prequel, playing Percy Malleson.

In 2015, he appeared in ITV sitcom Birds of a Feather.
