James Pearson (born 19 January 1993) is an English footballer who plays as a defender for Barnet, being deployed either as a centre back or a right back.[2]
Early life
Pearson is the son of Nigel Pearson, a former Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough defender, who has later managed teams such as Hull City and Leicester City. James still resides in Sheffield where he was born while his father was playing for Sheffield Wednesday. He attended Westbourne School in Sheffield, and Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.[3]
Career
Early career
Pearson's youth career began at Rotherham United, but he was released in the summer of 2009.[3]
Leicester City
On 19 September 2012, Pearson joined on a 12-month contract Football League Championship side Leicester City, who were then managed by his father Nigel,[4] the season before they returned to the Premier League after a ten-year absence.
On 11 March 2014, he joined League One club Carlisle United on loan for the rest of the season, along with Watford's Reece Brown.[2] The next day, he made his professional debut, playing the full 90 minutes in a 0–1 defeat at Sheffield United.[5] He went on to represent Carlisle in a draw against Stevenage and a loss to Notts County,[6] before returning to Leicester, where extended his contract by a further year on 2 June.[7] On 26 August, Pearson made his Leicester City debut, along with Ryan Watson and Michael Cain, in the 0–1 League Cup second round home defeat to League Two Shrewsbury Town, playing the whole match.[8]
On 27 October, Pearson joined Conference Premier side Wrexham on a month-long loan,[9] extended into January 2015.[10] He played five league games for the club, in addition to two FA Trophy games and three rounds of the FA Cup, ending with a 1–3 defeat at top-flight Stoke City in the third round on 4 January.[11]
In March 2015, Pearson joined Peterborough United on loan until the end of the season,[12] but he failed to make an appearance for the club, featuring on the bench only twice.
On 17 June 2015, Pearson's contract was terminated by Leicester City following an incident during a promotional tour in Thailand.[13]
Barnet
Following his departure from the Foxes, Pearson trained with his former club Rotherham[14] before joining Barnet on 2 February 2016.[15][16]
Controversy
In May 2015, during an Asian promotional tour, Pearson and teammates Tom Hopper and Adam Smith "took part in a racist sex tape filmed on the club's end-of-season tour of Thailand",[13] a video recording of which was obtained by the Sunday Mirror.[17] "One of the men in the video ... can be heard using a racist insult against a woman."[17] The three players apologised for their behaviour.[17] All three were sacked on 17 June.[13] In relation to the tape, Nigel Pearson was sacked as Leicester manager by the club's Thai owners on 30 June.[18]

Leicester City have sacked three players, including manager Nigel Pearson's son, after they took part in a racist sex tape filmed on the club's end-of-season tour of Thailand. A club statement said Leicester City "is acutely aware of its position, and that of its players, as a representative of the city of Leicester, the Premier League, the Football Association and the club's supporters". It added that it is "committed to promoting a positive message of community and family values and equality" and "to upholding the standards expected of a club with its history, tradition and aspirations".

Three Leicester City players who it is claimed appeared in a racist sex tape have apologised for their behaviour. Footage apparently showing development squad members Tom Hopper, Adam Smith and James Pearson - son of manager Nigel Pearson - was obtained by the Sunday Mirror. One of the men in the video, which was shot in Thailand, can be heard using a racist insult against a woman.

Nigel Pearson's sacking by Leicester was linked to his son's role in a racist sex tape in the owners' homeland of Thailand, the BBC has learned. Pearson's son James was one of three trainees dismissed by the club for their involvement in the tape. The issue was the final straw in the deteriorating relationship between the owners and Pearson. BBC Sport's Pat Murphy has learned the 51-year-old's sacking was "definitely not a football issue".
