Ján Podhradský (31 August 1917 – 15 December 1998) is a former Slovak international footballer who last played for ŠK Bratislava.

Club career

Born during World War I in the town of Kisač, on the outskirts of Novi Sad, at the time still technically part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, he started playing in a local club named SŠK Bački Petrovac, and afterwords played one season in the major regional club, FK Vojvodina, where his skills started to be noted, and made him win a contract with the major Serbian club in that period, BSK Belgrade.[1] With them he played 3 seasons and won one Yugoslav championship, in the season of 1938-39. With the beginning of the Second World War in Yugoslavia, in 1941, he moved to his fatherland Slovakia, and continued his career in ŠK Bratislava until his end of career in 1947, and made an impressive record of 124 goals in 153 matches. He played as a left midfielder and was famous for his great technical skills.

His name in Slovakian is Ján Podhradský, although during the period he played in Yugoslavia his name was often spelled in a simplified version as Jan Podgradski.
