Jarko Zavi
Jarko Zavi was a Czech-born Canadian ceramist and sculptor who lived and worked principally in Ontario. He died at Brighton, Ontario in 1987. Zavi was a prominent Czech ceramist who fled to Canada in 1941 due to the outbreak of World War II.[1] He was a prominent member of the Czech emigree community who helped promote cultural institutions in Toronto.[2] During his lifetime, Zavi's small animal statues proved to be very popular with buyers.[1] He also produced decorative plates with animal motifs.[3] He maintained his studio practice as a lone artist who did not participate in the gallery and museum displays.[1]
