Jawhar is a city and a municipal council in Palghar district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. One of the oldest municipal council of maharashtra state was formed in 1918. It is about 145 km from Mumbai and 80 km from the city of Nashik.

Jawhar is located at 19°55′N 73°14′E / 19.92°N 73.23°E / 19.92; 73.23. It has an average elevation of 447 metres (1466 feet).

Jawhar is a hill station located at an altitude of 518m. It is about 80 km from Nasik and 145 km away from Mumbai. Situated in newly formed Palghar district, Jawhar is known for its picturesque setting and a vibrant cultural heritage. It is also known as the 'Mahabaleshwar' of Thane district but now in Palghar district. It is one of the very few tribal regions of Maharashtra and is famous for its vibrant Warli paintings that are a characteristic landmark of this place.

Jawhar Princely State

The princely state of Jawhar was originally founded in 1343 AD. As a princely state, it became a part of Bombay Presidency during the British Raj and was given a 9-gun salute status. The last ruler of Jawhar at Indian independence was Raja Patang Shah V (Yashswant Rao) Mukne.

Dadarkopara ( Dabhosa)

Dabhosa- Dadarkopara -waterfall is only 18 km away from on jawhar — Talasari — Silvasa Road. This waterfall is on Lendi River and on other side of river at sarsun there is Dadarkopara Waterfall. The dadarkopara fall is dry during summer there is also known as suka (Dry) fall.The height of waterfall is 300 feet from lendi river first the water comes in flask shaped rock & again from there it comes in 5 feet by 5 feet flask shaped open natural container.Both the sides of waterfall are surround by straight mountains of height not less than 600 feet and are covered with medical plants.(Vanaushadhi)..

Jaivilas Palace

The palace was built by Raje Yashwant Rao Maukne.The stone used for this is syenite which was brought from sakhara which is 12km away from its location.It is said that when the work of palace was completed, the quarry from which the stone was extracted was broken down and now the Geological Department of Government of India has taken up to locate the quarry .The palace is a master piece of pink stone.There is a beautiful garden with a dense forest like foliage, having trees of cashewnut everywhere.

Hanuman Point

On the east side of the city from nearly 1 to 2 km from the heart of the city there was an old temple of maruti which was surrounded by dark forest of cactus, thus known as Katya Maruti mandir.Ahead of mandir there is a valley .The temple is surrounded by valley from three side. the valley is nearly 500 feet deep As the development is done the temple is renovated and now it is known as Hanuman Point. From this point at the time of night we can see the lights of train in Kasara ghat.During the day we can see the historical fort of Shahapur Maholi.Early in the morning the valley of mountains are covered with dark fog.Lightly we can say that every where is water .But as the fog disappears we can see beautiful greenery .Just after that we can see the sun rays rising from behind the hill. The valley also known as Devkobacha Kada Among this our freedom fighter and most beloved Veer Savarkar also lives here in his childhood . The hanuman point (Sunrise Point ) is there a most beautiful place from where we can see sunrise beautiful valley, high hills & the Royal Jaivilas Palace.

Sunset Point

Nearly 0.5 km away towards west from the heart of the city is the heritage of lovers called Sunset point. The Shape of the valley is like Bow therefore earlier was known as Dhanukamal. While the sunsets, the mountain of Mahalaxmi near Dahanu which is nearly 60 km from Jawhar can be seen easily.

The waterfall is about 100 metres in height and there is flow throughout the year, and not just during the monsoons.

Khad-Khad Dam

This is one of the major dams near jawhar city with beautiful scenic locations.The place provides a peaceful natural ambience to soothe a tired mind & body.besides this excess water of dam flows through the huge rocks(just ahead the dam) which can be seen in form of a waterfall.

Shirpamal

The Shirpamal is a popular structure of great emperor of the Maratha Kingdom, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj stayed here at night while traveling to Surat.
