Jaypee University of Information Technology (also J. P. University of Information Technology and JUIT) (Hindi: जेपी सूचना तकनीक विश्वविद्यालय) is a state (private) university in Waknaghat, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India. The curriculum focuses on undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level studies and research in engineering and applied sciences disciplines.

History

Jaypee University of Information Technology is recognised by the state government of Himachal Pradesh, India. It was set up by Act No. 14 of 2002[3] vide Extraordinary Gazette notification of Government of Himachal Pradesh dated 23 May 2002.[1] JUIT was approved by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, the University commenced academic activities from July 2002.

Location

The university is located 4 kilometers off National Highway 22 (22 km from Shimla) (from Waknaghat) which runs from Kalka to Shimla (India).

The campus is spread over 25 acres (100,000 m2) on the green slopes of Waknaghat. The town of Kasauli can be seen from the university on one side, far on the hill.

Though the university campus can be reached by taxi cabs and autorickshaws available at University Gate and Waknaghat. The nearest railway station is Kaithleeghat, 4 kilometers from Waknaghat and the nearest airport is Shimla. Regular bus service is available to Chandigarh, Delhi and most major stations of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab at Shimla and Solan bus stations.

In addition to the above mentioned programs, a dual degree program is offered, wherein a student spends four years at JUIT attending aforementioned programs and one year of the MBA program at the Jaypee Business School, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, NOIDA.

Hostels

About 90% of the students live on-campus. On-campus boarding capacity is for up to 1500 students in various hostel blocks named Shastri Bhawan, Geeta Bhawan, Parmar Bhawan and Azad Bhawan. All rooms are provided with Internet access, Blower and Furniture. Single and double rooms are available with the former being slightly more expensive. Each student is provided with a bed, an almirah, a rack and shelf and a table. Food at the college mess, Annapurna, is available to students, charges included in boarding fees. Gymnasium and Television facilities are also available.

Student Counselor

To provide emotional and counseling support to the students of JUIT the university has on campus a student Counselor whose services are offered free of cost to every student of JUIT.

Computing facilities

There are more than 1000 IBM desktops in the academic block available to students in nine computer labs. A UNIX(OS - Sun Solaris 9) lab has recently been discontinued. Centralized resources including networked printers and scanners are available to students.

Annapurna mess

There are two large student dining halls. Nutritious food decided by the mess administration is provided to students three times a day and hot milk at night. For eating off campus, students have the option of food kiosks and dhabas by local residents.

"Sanrachna" National level civil tech fest

Civil Engineering Consortium (CEC) is a non-registered, non-profit technical organization of Jaypee University Of Information Technology (JUIT), Solan.Civil engineering consortium was formed way back in February 2008 with an aim & idea to inculcate technical and professional skills amongst the students of civilengineering at JUIT. With both students and faculty as its members, the organization is the active platform for the all the civil engineering activities of the University. CEC is responsible for conducting several Workshops, Seminars, Technical Events and Technical Conferences all related to the field of Civil Engineering.Thought is to provide a platform for the students which they can use to channel their energies to attain the best of technical knowledge in their fields.

Le Fiestus

The official festival of JUIT is a three-day event organised by JYC-JUIT Youth Club, held in March or April and called "Le Fiestus". In 2011, the theme was "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (World Is One Family). The celebrities during the night events were DJG Kilogram (featuring singer Girish Kilogram), Bodhi Satavas, Vishal-Shekhar (Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani) and actress Shruti Pathak. In 2012, Yo Yo Honey Singh was the main attraction of the event. Similarly, every year many stars come by like DJ NYK, Bombay Rockers, Mohit Chauhan, Benny Dayal, Nitin Gupta Rivaldo, and many more.

The fest start with a bang of colorful cultural night showcasing the dance, singing and various talents of JUITians. Faculty members also perform. Group performances are ranged from hip hop and western to Punjabi and Himachali folk dances. Second night is the DJ night which make everyone dance to their high beats.

The third night features a performance by a popular youth icon of bollywood or Indian music industry.

University has a rich culture of dance and music. A dance crew named VPL (Velhe Pvt. Ltd.) led by Karan Thaman emerged as one of the most influential group and has many winning titles including IIT Roorkee, JUIT, JIIT, JIET, Punjabi University, PEC Chandigarh and Tanda medical college.

Tech fest "Murious"

"Murious" is the official technical festival of JUIT organized by Tech Club, JYC. Murious means "limitless" and aims at bringing out talent in students from all domains to vie for honor. With events ranging from robotics to programming to some fun-and-frolic events like junkyard wars, it tries to give JUITians a three-day respite from their routine toil. It is usually held during January.

In 2014, Imtiaz Ali(director) visited JUIT campus with actor Ranbir Kapoor and singer Sunidhi Chauhan to shoot for the bollywood movie Tamasha (film).
