Jean Nelson Hall

Jean Nelson Hall is a hall of residence of the University of Ghana. The hall has a capacity of accommodating about 1700 students with self contained rooms- 4 in a room for undergraduates and 2 in a room for post-graduate students. The hall was named after the first Ghanaian Vice-Chancellor, Jean Nelson Aka. It was inaugurated in July. Its emblem shows a candle, a book and a pen to symbolize perseverance. It was designed by a final year Physics-Computer Science major student, Raymond Sung-Seh Harrison. The motto of the hall, "Lux In Tenebris" which is Latin for "Light In Darkness" was suggested by Raymond's mate at the time, a lady by the name Muna Twerefour". The emblem was officially adopted on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

The hall mistress is Dr. Angelina Danquah and the Senior Tutor for the Hall is Dr. Ebenezer Owusu and Mrs. Anastasia is the hall's secretary

THE JUNIOR COMMON ROOM (JCR) OF DR. JEAN NELSON AKA HALL.

THE JCR IN THE HALL WAS ESTABLISHED ON THE 11TH NOVEMBER 2011 BY THE POPULAR PARLIAMENTARY RESOLUTION THE 11-11-11 RESOLUTION. THE FIRST EXECUTIVES OF THE JCR ARE AS FOLLOWS; JACOB ANYONGMOR- PRESIDENT, EBENEZER ADJEI-AFFUL- GENERAL SECRETARY, HALLIMAH SALAMATU- ORGANIZING SECRETARY AND WISDOM ADOH- SPORTS SECRETARY. THE JCR ALSO HAS A LEGISLATIVE BODY CALLED THE PARLIAMENT. THE FIRST LEADERSHIP OF THE HOUSE INCLUDE; CONFIDENCE BLINKSEN GBORGLAH- RT. HON. SPEAKER, MORO FUSEINI- FIRST DEPUTY SPEAKER, YVONNE SERWAA- SECOND DEPUTY SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT AND SHEILLA MENSAH- CLERK. THE FIRST SENIOR TUTOR OF THE HALL IS DR. OWUSU AND THE FIRST HALL MISTRESS, DR. ANGELINA DANQUAH. THE JCR HAS PURPLE AS ITS COLOUR.
