Jefferson Luís Gonçalo (April 4, 1971 – October 5, 2010) was a Brazilian boxer in the Middleweight division.[1]
Pro career
On June 6, 2009[2] Gonçalo lost by ninth round K.O. in Parque Xcaret, Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico to top Welterweight Prospect, Mexican Saul Alvarez. This was the only loss in Gonçalo's career to end by K.O.[3]
Death
On the evening of October 2, 2010, during his fight against Ismael Bueno, Gonçalo collapsed after a rupture of an artery in the neck and was quickly taken to hospital. Gonçalo was in an induced coma and underwent surgery on the morning of the next day, when part of his brain was removed. On the morning of October 5, he was declared brain dead.[4]
