Jessica Tess McKellar is an American software developer, engineering manager, and author. Since 2012, she has been a director of the Python Software Foundation.[1] In 2013, McKellar won the O'Reilly Open Source Award for her contributions to Python.[2][3] She is a contributor to Twisted, a networking framework for Python.[4] She is a director of engineering and the chief of staff to the VP of Engineering at Dropbox.[5]
McKellar is the co-author of two books about computer programming, both for O'Reilly Media: "Twisted Network Programming Essentials" (2013)[4] and "Linux Device Drivers, 4th Edition" (upcoming).[6]
McKellar was an early employee and engineering manager at Ksplice, which was acquired by Oracle in 2011. In 2012, McKellar co-founded Zulip, a chat software company.[7] In 2014, the company was acquired by Dropbox.[8] She has spoken at several conferences about outreach efforts to increase the diversity of open-source communities.[9][10]
McKellar attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology [11] and studied computer science[12] and chemistry.[13]
