Jesuit Migration Academic Network (JMAN) was formed in 2005 as a unified effort among Jesuit colleges and universities to advocate for immigration reform in the United States.
Activities
The network is an outcome of a conference at Fairfield University in June 2005. Seventeen Jesuit Universities in the US were represented at that conference, along with UCA Managua, Nicaragua, University of Deusto, Spain, and Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico.
The network has a threefold goal. It advocates for public policy in accord with the work of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Jesuit Refugee Service, and with other Jesuit and church groups. It facilitates sharing on courses and on service learning components related to immigration, and possible minors in the area. It publicizes research projects and fosters collaboration and information sharing. [2] The research has included ways in which Jesuit universities can be more welcoming to immigrants. [3] The network is housed at the Center for Faith and Public Life at Fairfield University. [4] A similar network among Jesuit schools in the Asia Pacific area was formed in 2014. [5]
