Jhandir

"Jhandir, a semi-gacred tribe of Muhammadans said to be of Qureshi origin like the Nekokdra. Though they do not openly profeti'S to be religious directors, there is a certain odour of sanctity about the tribe. Most of them can read and write, and they arc " particularly free from ill deeds of every description." They own land in the extreme south of the Jhang District and are also found in the Mailsi tahsil of Multan. They are said to have been the standard-bearers of one of the great saints,whence their name."[1] [2]

History and origin

The tribe claims to be Qureshi Arabs, and say that their name is derived from (Jhanda Gir) meaning the one who carries the flag in war. The word shortened and came to be known as Jhandir (standard in Urdu (Saraiki) (Punjabi) (Persian), as their ancestor Hazrat Ghazi abbas Alambardar had been a standard bearer to the Imam Hussain.[3]

Distribution and villages

The Jhandir are found mainly in Shorkot Tehsil, with a few villages in Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Multan (Bahawlpur) (Vehari) (Jhang) Lodhran districts and also in Sindh Districts at [Sukkur][Naushahro Feroze] and [Sijjawal] [Kaarachi]. In (Vehari District), there is famous village known as Sardar Pur Jhandir and is famous because Pakistan's biggest Private library is situated in this area known as Masood Jhandir research library faunded in 1890. In the Mailsi Tehsil of Vehari,

In Shorkot Tehsil, the main villages are Sadiq Mohammed Jhandir, Jhandir Niaziwala, Kotli Jhandiran and Basti Jhandir, Tibbah Jhandir, Mian Qasim Jhandir, Mian Sammad Jhandir, Mian Hamza Jhandir.

In Khanewal District, Jhandir and Mohri Jhandir are the main villages, with Jhangal Mardyala 157/10R (Mian Shahzad Jhandir). In Saraiy Sidhu Basti Jhandir, Mian Saeed Jhandir, Mian Usama Jhandir, Mian Fahad Jhandir.

In Lodhran District, Jhandir is the main village.

In Multan Bastti Sahu village (Mian Shahzad Jhandir)and in Ismail Zai colony near the Main Shahi Eid Gah jhandir families were setteled in 1985, they migrated from Shorkot district jhang. main heads of family are Muhammad Sharif Jhandir who is the political worker in the area. his one son Tahir Hussain is serving the Nation as Rescuer while younger son Mussarat Hussain is a chartered Accountant.

In Ahmed pur sail Jhandeer families are settled in Chah Baigay Wala , Chah usman Wala, Pandi wala ,Mamu Wala.In Chah Baigay wala a renoned land lord Mian Yousaf Jhandeer son of mian abdul Ghani is living since 1960 He is very popular among the people for his social work .He is a father of four well known agriculturist named as Mian Ghazanfar jhandeer Mian Sajjad jhandeer Mian Ali hussain jhandeer and Mian Abdul Aziz jhandeer

District Lodhran. Jhandeer families are settled in Basti Mian Wala Tehsl Kahror Pakka, In Dhanot, Lodhran city, and in qureshi Wala Tehsil Lodhran
