Jihad Ward (born March 11, 1994) is an American football defensive end for the Oakland Raiders organization. He played college football at Illinois.
Early years
Ward attended Edward W. Bok Technical High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[1] Ward is a Muslim. He has said that his name, Jihad, which is popular where he was raised in Philadelphia, has been misunderstood due to the negative stereotypes associated with it.[2]
College career
Ward attended Globe Institute of Technology for two years before transferring to the University of Illinois.[3] In those two years he had 81 tackles and 10 sacks. During his first year at Illinois in 2014 he started all 13 games and had 51 tackles and three sacks.[4][5] As a senior he started all 12 games and recorded 53 tackles and 2.5 sacks.[6]

On April 29, 2016, Ward was selected in the 2nd round (44th overall) by the Oakland Raiders in the 2016 NFL Draft.
