Jim Mahon

Jim Mahon (February 1952, in Maidstone, Ontario August 19, 1971 in Maidstone, Ontario) was a Canadian ice hockey player.

Mahon was a gifted athlete as a young child. He played minor league ice hockey in Essex, Ontario. When he left Essex at 15 years of age, his first stop was Parry Sound where he played at the Junior C level. The next year he made the Peterborough Petes; as a rookie in 46 games he totaled 28 goals and 20 assists for 48 points. The following year he improved, and in 62 games his totals were 45 goals and 44 assists for 89 points.

In the summer of 1971, with one season to go before his draft year, Mahon died in an electrical accident at his grandfather's home.[1]

The Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy, given to the Ontario Hockey League right winger with the most points in the regular season, is named in his honor.[2]
