Jimmy Needham (born August 22, 1985) is an American contemporary Christian musician signed to Inpop Records. His second Inpop studio album, Not Without Love, was released on August 19, 2008.[1] Earlier in 2008, he was a guest on the Relentless tour with Natalie Grant,[2] and has previously toured with NewSong, Echoing Angels and Nate Sallie in late 2007.[2]
He is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he studied history and philosophy, and also a graduate of Tomball High School.[3] He is married to his wife Kelly, for whom he has written two songs.[4]
Musical career
Jimmy Needham's first album, For Freedom, was independently released in 2005, with the help of Troy Warren Jr.[5] He signed with the Christian record label Inpop in 2006, and released his major label debut album, Speak, later that year. His second major album, Not Without Love, was released on August 19, 2008.[6] In 2009, Jimmy began work on Nightlights, which was released by Inpop records on May 18, 2010. This was followed by Clear the Stage released on March 27, 2012. Clear the Stage appeared in the Sverigetopplistan, the official Swedish Albums Chart at No. 59 on July 6, 2012.[7] On September 10, 2013, Jimmy Needham released his first album covering only old hymns, creating new versions to them. The first album of these sessions is called The Hymns Sessions, Vol 1. On January 28, 2015, Needham announced the title of his sixth studio album, Vice & Virtue to be released May 5, 2015.[8]
Influences
On his debut Inpop album, Speak, Needham stated that his musical influences include Jonny Lang, Lauryn Hill, Gavin DeGraw, Marc Broussard, Jason Mraz, and particularly Keith Green.[9] Needham said "When I listen to him it's cool because I feel the Lord has given us the same spirit in what we're singing about. If music—especially Christian music—doesn't either cause me to repent or worship, then I don't know why I'm listening to it. And I think that's why I like Keith Green so much. He didn't sugarcoat things."[9]
