Jocelyn Devas

Jocelyn Devas (died 1886) was the founder of the Devas Club[1] in 1884, a charitable club for young working men in Battersea, south London, England, originally in a room over a coffee shop in Stewarts Road.[2]

Devas was a student at University College, Oxford, matriculating in 1878. The Devas Club was originally called University College House[3] and the Devas Club has maintained its links with the college over the years.

Devas was killed in 1886 in a climbing accident while trying to ascend the Matterhorn in France.[2][4] His father continued supporting the club after his death and there are still family links today.
