Joey Jayne, a Navajo originally from New Mexico, now runs her own law office in Arlee, MT (since 2001). Jayne was a Democratic Party member of the Montana House of Representatives, representing District 15, from 2001 to 2008. She served as Justice of the Peace in Lake and Sanders Counties from 2012 - 2014, after Justice Chuck Walls was forced to resign due to harassment charges from his staff. Jayne was the Democratic nominee in 2008 for District Court Judge for Sanders and Lake counties and again in 2012, but lost in 2012 after plagiarism charges regarding her application surfaced. She was also accused of illegal campaign practices by the Salish and Kootenai Confederated Tribes, but was not formally charged by the tribe. She had worked for them as an attorney from 1998 to 2000.
