Johann Baptist von Lampi the Younger

Johann Baptist von Lampi the Younger (4 March 1775 17 February 1837) was an Austrian portrait painter. He was born at Trento and studied under his father, Johann Baptist von Lampi the Elder, and later at the Academy at Vienna under Maurer and Fuger. He went with his father and younger brother, Franz (Franciszek), to St. Petersburg in 1797 enticed by an extremely generous offer from the Tsar,[1] and stayed for 13 years.[2] He became a member of the Academy at that city as well as of that at Vienna in 1813. He painted many of the most distinguished personages of his time. He died in Vienna.
