John's Grill is a historical restaurant in San Francisco, California at 63 Ellis Street.[1][2] The restaurant is famous, in part, thanks to the novel The Maltese Falcon.
Overview
With Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon backdrop, the restaurant serves Americcan cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients. Specialties include fresh oysters, Maine lobsters ravioli, feta cheese for appetizers, seafood for salads with their special herbs and dressings, steak and lamb chops, seafood and shellfish.[3] The restaurant stands at the edge of the Tendeloin neighborhood, more or less where it becomes the tourist-oriented "Powell Street Turnaround" section of San Francisco.
Declared as one of the top 10 restaurants in the country by Esquire magazine, John's Grill has drawn critical acclaim from media outlets such as The New York Times, Chicago Times, Washington Post, and Sunset, plus NBC, CNN, and Fox News. The century-plus history of the restaurant has seen big names and celebrities including Sophia Loren, Jerry Lewis, George Lucas, Alice Cooper, Alfred Hitchcock, Keanu Reeves, Francis Ford Coppola, Johnny Depp, and many more among its diners.
