John-Luke Roberts

John-Luke Roberts, also known as Luke Roberts (born 1985, Newcastle upon Tyne), is a British comedy writer and performer noted for his BBC 7 radio sketch comedy series Spats and his live show The Alternative Comedy Memorial Society.

Roberts graduated from Cambridge University and studied at the National Youth Theatre.[1] While at Cambridge, he was a finalist in the 2005 BBC New Comedy Awards.[2]

In 2006 Roberts wrote and starred in his own radio pilot, Spats. The programme went on to broadcast two series of four episodes each in 2007 and 2008.[3] He has also written for other comedy radio shows, such as Act Your Age, The Now Show and The News Quiz.[1] Roberts also co-founded the comedy show The Alternative Comedy Memorial Society, along with Thom Tuck. It is currently in residence at the Soho Theatre in London. The two also performed the show at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.[1][4]

He and his ex-girlfriend, Nadia Kamil, performed as the sketch comedy group The Behemoth.[1]

At the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe festival, Roberts's joke "I made a Battenberg where the two colours ran alongside each other. I called it apartheid sponge" was voted one of the 10 worst jokes of the event.[5]
