John Bakel

John Bakel (born October 14, 1972 in New York) is a New York fashion designer. He studied history, physics and Arabic at New York University. The silhouettes of his eponymous line is a confluence of the very feminine and the very modern. All of his dresses and separates are created using couture construction techniques mostly in French silks. Bakel is noted for the artistic approach to the creation of his women’s silhouette.[1][2]

While his own line contains no denim, he is widely considered a master denim designer. He possesses a scholarly knowledge of denim fit, wash, and silhouette design. He is considered to be a major innovator in denim. He is highly sought after by US, European, and Japanese fashion houses as a design consultant. Fabric mills, zipper and hardware manufacturers also often approach him for advice due to his expansive knowledge of all the material components required in the manufacturing of blue jeans.
