John Cowper Granbery (1829–1907) was an American clergyman of the Southern Methodist Episcopal church.
Biography
Early life
John Cowper Granbery was born on December 5, 1829 in Norfolk, Virginia.[1] He graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 1848.
Career
He entered the Methodist ministry and acted as chaplain in the Confederate States Army.[2] After preaching in Washington, Richmond, and Petersburg, he became Professor of moral philosophy and practical theology in Vanderbilt University in 1875.[3] Seven years later, he was elected Bishop in the Southern Methodist church.
Death
He died on April 1, 1907.[1] He was buried in the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.[1]
