John Edmund Strandberg - (16 November 1911 Sweden - 25 August 1996 Canada ) [1][2] was a painter born in Sweden who later immigrated to Ontario Canada [3]

Biography

Born in Stockholm, John Strandberg began painting when he was still a child. He received his Masters Degree in Cabinet Making in 1930.

At the onset of World War II he put his career on hold in order to join the Finnish Army.

After the war, he studied with European artists in Stockholm, before immigrating to Toronto, Canada, with his wife Eva and their two daughters.

In Canada, he studied under artists like Chadwell and Hodkins.[4]

Work

John Strandberg is a plein air landscape painter who paints in oils, using a palette knife. His inspiration is the Canadian landscape.

Strandberg toured Canada, the United States and Europe on one man exhibitions, as well as participating in several art shows, such as The World of Arts and Crafts, United Artists, The Artists Touring Association.[5]

Collections

Stranberg's paintings can be found in several institutional collections, such as the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, art galleries, banks, insurance, trust companies, as well as in private collections.[6]
