John Murray (died 1753)

John Murray (died 2 July 1753) was a Scottish politician.

He was born the eldest son of Sir James Murray, M.P. in the Parliament of Scotland, of Philiphaugh and Lord Philiphaugh. He succeeded his father in 1708. He was the hereditary Sheriff of Selkirk from 1708 to c.1734.

He was the Member of Parliament for the Linlithgow Burghs, 1725–1734 and Selkirkshire, 1734–1753. [1]

He married Eleanor, the daughter of Lord Basil Hamilton, with whom he had 4 sons and 2 daughters.
