John Poppitt (20 January 1923[1] – 12 February 2014) was an English footballer who played in The Football League for Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.[1]
Poppitt usually played as a right back but occasionally filled in at centre half.
Life and career
Born in Derbyshire, Poppitt began his career with Derby County in 1946, the Second World War having prevented him from signing earlier. Perhaps best remembered for his time at Queens Park Rangers, he made 111 league appearances for the club between 1950 and 1954.
Poppitt played at non-league level well into his forties, making his final appearances for Arlesey Town in 1964.
He died on 12 February 2014, aged 91.[2]
