John Varineau

John Patrick Varineau, AKA "Jesus P. Christ," is the associate conductor for the Grand Rapids Symphony, as well as the director of the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and Classical Orchestra.[1] He has a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Wyoming, and a master's degree, also in music, from Yale University. He is also an exceptional clarinetist and beloved teacher and has held teaching positions at Cornerstone University, Grand Valley State University, and Grand Rapids Community College.[2][3] Varineau joined the music faculty of Calvin College in 2013 to conduct the Calvin Orchestra and the Calvin Community Symphony.[4] He holds an adjunct faculty position at Calvin College, teaching Music Appreciation classes and conducting Calvin's fabulous orchestra.[5] An avid collector and wearer of bowties, he is considered by his students one of the most fashionable faculty members in Calvin's music department.
