Jon Garth Murray (November 16, 1954 – September 29, 1995) was the second son of late controversial activist Madalyn Murray O'Hair, the first president and founder of American Atheists, Inc., in 1963. He was also the half-brother of the reverend William "Bill" Murray.

Career and activism

From 1986 until his death in 1995, Murray held the de jure office of President of American Atheists. It was a title without power however, as his mother retained authoritative control behind-the-scenes.

Personal life and death

Jon Garth Murray was born in Maryland in 1954, the son of Madalyn Murray O'Hair, fathered by her then-boyfriend Michael Fiorillo. It is most likely that he never met his father. He had only one relationship in his life, which was short-lived.

Murray, a tall heavyset man with a speech impairment, was living with his mother Madalyn and niece (and adopted sister) Robin Murray O'Hair in Austin, Texas, when all three of them were abducted at gunpoint, tormented, and slain in San Antonio by one of their ex-employees, David Roland Waters.
