Jon Neufeld (born 1983 or 1984)[1] is a member of the Christian rock band Starfield. He does back-up vocals and plays electric guitar alongside his brother Tim, who is six years his senior.[2]

The Band

The name "Starfield" was adopted from Bruce Cockburn's 1976 song named "Lord of the Starfields".[3] The band was started in 1998 when Jon and Tim led worship at their small church in Winnipeg.[1][4] The band returned to Abbotsford after a few years of living in Nashville.

On their band's purpose, Jon says:

“You can get as abstract as you want in Christian music. There is a voice and a season for every kind of expression under the sun. You can be very fundamental or you can get off the beaten path, but there are a few subjects you can’t go wrong on, such as helping the poor and lifting up the name of Jesus. I think our last album encapsulated those two concepts very well. The Saving One is more internal. It is less about justice and more about being honest with ourselves and getting right before God.” [2]

Starfield is also associated with the organization World Vision and sponsors a child through them.[1]

Albums

The band's first major label album was self titled, Starfield and released on May 18, 2004 through Sparrow Records. Their second album, Beauty in the Broken was released two years later, on May 16, 2006. Their fourth album, I Will Go was released on March 25, 2008. Their fifth album, The Saving One, was released February 23, 2010. Their sixth album, The Kingdom, was released independently January 2012.

Awards

Starfield was nominated for a Juno award in the year 2003 and again in 2009. They have also won five Vibe awards for best Artist, Group, Song, Rock/Alternative Album and Worship Album of the Year.[3]
