Jonty Matthew David Messer is a British journalist and newsreader employed by ITV West Country.
Early life
Jonty studied for a Postgraduate Diploma for Broadcast Journalism at the London College of Printing between 2007 and 2008.
He studied that the University of the West of England between 2003 and 2006. Jonty also studied at Wycliffe College and captained both the football 1st XI and the rugby 1st XV. Jonty has two siblings Thomas and Georgia.
Career
Jonty began his broadcasting career with the BBC, working in their regional newsrooms in the South West and Wales. Between 2008 and 2009, Messer was a freelance sports commentator for BBC Bristol, commentating primarily on Bristol Rugby. He then joined Real Radio in Cardiff, working as an editor and newsreader for the station, which is part of GMG Radio. Jonty left in May 2010 to pursue further career opportunities, spending rime producing the BBC Somerset Breakfast Show, before being asked to join ITV News West Country, initially as an online journalist and moving onto report and produce items for the flagship 6pm programme ITV West Country.[1] In 2012 Jonty was appointed early presenter for ITV News West Country in September 2012,[2] while fellow presenter Ellie Barker took maternity leave. Jonty then joined Good Morning Britain (formerly Daybreak) as a reporter/producer on a four month attachment, covering national stories for ITV's breakfast programme. Returning to ITV West CountryJin 2014 Jonty continues to cover reporting and presenting shifts, occasionally standing in for Ian Axton as the programmes main presenter.
