JordanCon is a North American convention held annually in Atlanta, Georgia that celebrates Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time fantasy book series.

History

Founding

The intention to organize and hold the first JordanCon was announced at Dragon Con in 2007. Flyers debuted at Chattacon in 2008. The first JordanCon was held at the Alpharetta Embassy Suites, in Alpharetta, Georgia, April 17–19, 2009. The Guest of Honor was Harriet McDougal, widow of Robert Jordan. Fan Guest of Honor was Wilson Grooms, and the Toastmaster for the weekend was Jason Denzel. Guests also included writer Brandon Sanderson, and publisher Tom Doherty. Performances by The Lost Boys and Big City Burlesque rounded out the weekend. Over 250 people attended and over $3,000 was raised on behalf of the Mayo Clinic.

Programming highlights included a recording of Robert Jordan dictating a portion of the prologue to The Gathering Storm.[2]

Past conventions

JordanCon 2, 2010 was held April 23–25 at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia. Guests included writers Brandon Sanderson, Jana Oliver and David Wong. Toastmaster for the weekend was Matthew Hatch. Attendance was approximately 300 people.

JordanCon 3, 2011 was held April 15–17 at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia. The Guest of Honor was author David B. Coe. Additional guests included Eugie Foster and Brandon Sanderson.

JordanCon 4, 2012 was held April 20–22 at the Doubletree Hotel in Roswell, Georgia. The guests of honor include author Mary Robinette Kowal, artist Sam Weber, and toastmaster Melissa Craib Dombrowski. They were joined by Eugie Foster, Emilie P. Bush and Dr. Michael Livingston. Attendance was approximately 250 people.

JordanCon 5, 2013 was held April 19–21 at the Doubletree Hotel in Roswell, Georgia and hosted DeepSouthCon 51, an annual roving Southern US regional science fiction convention.[3] The Guests of Honor were artist Michael Whelan and author Seanan McGuire.

JordanCon 6, 2014 was held April 11–13 at the Doubletree Hotel in Roswell, Georgia. The guests of honor were author Patrick Rothfuss and artist Larry Elmore.[4][5] Additional guests included Brandon Sanderson and Harriet McDougal.

JordanCon 7, 2015 was held April 17–19 at the Atlanta Marriott at Perimeter Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The guests of honor were author Saladin Ahmed and artist Todd Lockwood.[6]

JordanCon 8, 2016 was held April 22–24 at the Atlanta Marriott at Perimeter Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The guests of honor were author Catherine Asaro and artist John Picacio. Toastmaster was Linda Taglieri, of The Thirteenth Depository. JordanCon 2016 was also host to DeepSouthCon 54. Additional guests included Brandon Sanderson and Harriet McDougal. The inaugural JordanCon awards were given out this year. Called the Hero of the Horn award, it is given out in three categories- the volunteers, professionals and organizations that have supported JordanCon. This year, the Hero of the Horn was awarded to April Moore for all of her hard work as a volunteer, TarValon.net for its long-standing support as an organization and Brandon Sanderson as a professional for his dedication and support.[7] DeepSouthCon Awards- Phoenix was awarded to Eugie Foster & Jana Oliver. Rebel was awarded to Bill Harrison & Pat Henry.[8]

Upcoming conventions

JordanCon 9 in 2017 will be held April 21–23 at the Atlanta Marriott at Perimeter Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The guests of honor are scheduled to be author Charles E. Gannon and artist Stephen Hickman.
