Jose Pina Ulisses Correia e Silva (born 4 June 1962) is a Cape Verdean businessman and politician who has been Prime Minister of Cape Verde since 22 April 2016.[1]

He took office after his party, the Movement for Democracy, won the 20 March 2016 parliamentary election.[2]

Biography

Career

Silva began his career in the banking sector and between 1989 and 1994 held various important positions in the sector and eventually became the director of administration at the Bank of Cape Verde. Similarly at the same time he held various teaching jobs at the Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde.[3]

Slowly Silva began to move into working for the government and was the Secretary of State for finance between 1995 and 1998 and Minister of Finance from 1999 to 2000.[4]

Personal life

He is married to a woman from Praia and has two children.
