Joseph Fiore

Joseph Fiore (1925–2008) was and American painter. He taught at Black Mountain College from 1946-1957 [1]

Life

Fiore was born in Cleveland, Ohio. The Artist's father was a violinist and founding member of the Cleveland Symphony.[2] Fiore came to North Carolina in the summer of 1946 to study at Black Mountain College. The artist remained at the school until it closed in 1957. After over a decade at Black Mountain, the artist settled in New York City.[3]

Work

Fiore's created abstract oil paintings and collages. His work was frequently was frequently inspired by the natural world.[4] The vast majority of works Fiore created at Black Mountain College were lost to a fire in 1953. However, some of his colorful collages were spared.[1]
