Joseph Harwood


Joseph John Lawrence Harwood (born 1991) is a makeup artist and YouTube blogger from Brighton. She is best known for winning Simon Cowell's The You Generation competition with her popular YouTube blog JHMemoires. [1]

Background

Joseph Harwood was born in the town of Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom. Harwood considers herself Two-Spirited.[2] Joseph has one younger sister.

Education

In 2012 Harwood was referred to the University of the Arts London by the infamous Professeur de Parfums Roja Dove to study an MSc in Cosmetic Research. Prior to this, Harwood has completed a Foundation Btec Diploma in Art and Design.

Career

Model

Harwood was scouted at the age of 15 by a stylist working on the launch of Alexander Mcqueen's first commercial line McQ. Debuting for London Fashion Week at age 16, Harwood was casted for runway, editorial and print. Harwood was invited to assist [2] in Tokyo for several underground magazines, which led to the beginnings of a change in career.

Makeup artist

As a makeup artist, Harwood is frequently booked for celebrities, musicians[3] and reality television stars. Her work has appeared in many publications ranging from Gay Times, NOW Magazine and Dazed and Confused. Harwood has also gained press transforming French model François Sagat[4] into Madonna for the launch issue of LoverBoy Magazine.

YouTube

During December 2012, Harwood began creating a month of beauty tutorials on the YouTube channel JHMemoires. Transforming into supermodels, musicians and Hollywood stars such as Tyra Banks, Marilyn Monroe and Miley Cyrus. Harwoods work has caught the attention of news sites ranging from Buzzfeed[5] and G1[6] to the Daily Mail.[7] During this time Harwood took interest in an interview with Simon Cowell and YouTube sensations Pixiwoo,[8] advertising the brand new YouTube competition YouGeneration run by SyCo. Entering with a gender transformation video, Harwood was announced via skype by YouTube Blogger Jim Chapman as winner of the Makeup Category.[9] In March 2014 Harwood was announced on Twitter to be the Grande Prize Winner overall and the recipient of $75,000. Harwood is currently working on the launch of his highly anticipated cosmetics brush line, Joseph Harwood Cosmetics.
