The Journal of Black Psychology is a quarterly psychology journal published by the Association of Black Psychologists. The journal was founded in 1974 and publishes original research in a wide variety of areas:
- African-centered psychology
- Counseling and clinical psychology
- Psychology of black children
- Therapeutic interventions
- Personality
- Education
- Health and social behavior
- Life span and family issues
- Diversity in African cultures
- Organizational psychology
The journal has provided a forum for the exploration of the psychology of black peoples. Its current editor in chief is Shawn Utsey of Virginia Commonwealth University.
Volume 34.3 (2008) was devoted to the 40th anniversary of the Association of Black Psychologists. Recent issues include essays such as "Relationships Between Exposure to Rap Music Videos and Attitudes Toward Relationships Among African American Youth" (Yaphet Bryant), "Correlates of Substance Use in Relation to Sexual Behavior in Black Gay and Bisexual Men: Implications for HIV Prevention" (Leo Wilton), and "Black Football Players on a Predominantly White College Campus: Psychosocial and Emotional Realities of the Black College Athlete Experience" (Mickey C. Melendez).
