Joy Constance Kwesiga PhD is a Ugandan academic, academic administrator, gender specialist and community activist. She is the current Vice Chancellor of Kabale University, a private institution of higher education in Uganda, accredited by Uganda's National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), in 2005.[1]

She was born in Kabale District, Western Uganda, in 1943.
Education
She attended Kabale Girls' Junior Boarding School for her elementary school. She then transferred to Gayaza High School, for her O-Level and A-Level education. In 1964, she entered the then University of East Africa at Makerere, where she studied Geography, graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Geography in 1968. Later, she enrolled in the Postgraduate diploma in Public Administration at was known as the Uganda Institute of Public Administration, but is now known as the Uganda Management Institute. She successfully completed that course in 1979. Her degrees of Master of Arts in Higher Education and that of Doctor of Philosophy in Education and Gender Issues were both obtained from the University of London in 1987 and 1993, respectively.[2]
Work history
Following her graduation from the University of East Africa at Makerere in 1967, she stayed on, working as an Executive Secretary in the university administration. She gradually rose through the ranks and by 1994, she had risen to serve as the Deputy Registrar for postgraduate studies. Between 1995 and 1998, she served as the Head of Department of Women and Gender Studies at what was now known as Makerere University, the oldest and largest of Uganda's seven public universities. From 1998 until 2001, she was the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences at Makerere University. In 2001, she was appointed Vice Chancellor, Kabale University, a position she still occupies today.[3]
