Joy Sarkar is a Kolkata-based Bengali music director and songwriter.

Personal life

Joy Sarkar was born in Kolkata, India, to Sudhin Sarkar, who is a Bengali singer, and Kalyani Sarkar. He has an elder brother, Rana.[1]

Sarkar has been married to a Bengali singer Lopamudra Mitra since 2001. They have worked together and composed many Bengali songs.[2]

He was the judge of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2013 in Zee Bangla. He had been the judge of the same show in previous seasons.

Career

Sarkar started music with the guitar, learning from Subrata Karmakar, Nepal Shaw and Amyt Dutta. Travelling extensively around the country and the globe he slowly started doing sessions, arrangements and composing. He started his career in 1998 when he composed the first song of his life, that was Chhelebelar Brishti, sung by his wife Lopamudra Mitra and the lyricist was Partha Bhattacharya. Since then he has been composing for albums, films, stage, television and advertising commercials.
