Joy Thomas (born December 22, 1950) is an Indian film producer and distributor. He is the founder of Jubilee Productions. New Delhi, Manu Uncle, Nirakkoottu, My Dear Muthachan, Sandarbham are some of his highly popular films.
Early life
Joy Thomas was born as the eldest son of Mr. P. T. Thomas and Mrs. Annamma Thomas in Kottayam district of Kerala. His family was into automobile business but Joy wanted to pursue a career in the arts and entertainment industry. Joy is married to Laila and the couple have three daughters, Jelitta, Jeleena and Jereena. Jelitta produced the 1990 movie Marupuram.
Career
As Joy Thomas was always fascinated with the world of celluloid, and because of the unrelenting passion, he joined Dinny Films to learn more about various aspects of movie distribution and production in 1969. He started grasping the nuances of film production and distribution at Dinny Films and moved quickly up the ladder.
In 1975, he took the big leap by starting his film distribution company, Jubilee Pictures while continuing to be associated with Dinny Films. During 1975-76, he leased out Pankaj Theatre in Aluva and screened movies. From a bottom level, he made it one of the largest tax paying theaters. By taking this bold step, he was able to bring in the capital for his own venture. In 1981, he decided to devote his complete time and dedication for his own brain child and he bid adieu to Dinny Films in the same year on a good note.
1983 was a milestone year for Joy Thomas with the release of his maiden production venture ‘Aa Raathri’ which had story by himself and directed by Joshiy. ‘Aattakalasam’ was also released in the same year. With the release of the family movie ‘Sandarbham’, Jubilee Productions gained popularity as a family banner.
