Jozi (musical group)

Jozi is a South African singing and rap duo consisting of Leslie "Da L.e.s" Mampe and Ishamel "Ish" Morabe. Past members include: Luther "Crazy Lu" Cohen and Bongani "Bongz" Fassie son of Brenda Fassie. The group derives their name from Johannesburg the capital city where they all reside.

Mampe, who was born in July 26, 1985 in the United States, serves as the group's rapper and has been a member of the group since their debut in 2007.[1] Morabe is the group's singer and has been in the group since their debut in 2007. They have released three albums: Muthaland Crunk, Wildlife and Moving the City. Muthaland Crunk which was released in 2007 was a success and spawned hits like "What's With the Attitude (Wayithini Umame)" and "Muthaland". The group is known for fusing hip hop with traditional South African sounds. Wildlife spawned the hit single "Wildlife". "Living in Africa" which was included in the Wildlife album, sampled "Kazet" by Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens and although it was a hit, it did not become a single. Moving the City, their third album was released in 2012, and is their most recent album which included a reality show called Moving the City. The reality show is broadcast on SABC1 and shows the process of creating the album.[1]

The group has been nominated for three MOBO awards[2]
